In Praise of Adventure Games With No Enemies

We tend to equate 'engaging' with 'stressful' — enemies, timers, health bars. Hollow Tide Expedition quietly argues the opposite. It's an adventure with no combat, and it held my attention harder than most action games.

Without a threat, the tension comes from curiosity. What's behind that door? What does this glowing symbol mean? The game feeds you just enough mystery to keep pulling you forward.

The puzzles help. They're never brutal, but they respect your intelligence and don't over-explain. Solving one gives that clean 'aha' feeling that no combat encounter really matches.

Atmosphere carries a lot too. The sound design of muffled underwater ambience and the hand-drawn ruins do more storytelling than any dialogue could.

It's proof that a mobile game doesn't need constant stimulation to be worth your time. Sometimes quiet is the whole hook.
