Why Cozy Sim Games Stick When Big Games Don't

Why Cozy Sim Games Stick When Big Games Don't

I've bounced off plenty of huge, ambitious mobile games. But Petal Garden Days has been on my home screen for months, and I've thought about why that is.

Cozy sims work because they ask for very little and give a small, reliable reward. You water some plants, you see growth, you feel a tiny bit accomplished. There's no failure, no pressure, no missing out.

That low commitment is a feature, not a flaw. A game you open for ninety seconds while your coffee brews is more sustainable than a demanding one you dread logging into.

The trick a good cozy game pulls is having just enough long-term goals — rare flowers, new decorations — to keep the loop alive. Too little and you drift away; too much and it stops being cozy.

If you're burned out on big games, try one of these. Sometimes the best mobile game is the one that doesn't want anything from you.
